One thing you'll to keep in mind is to relax and let the diamonds do the work.
Just slide the knife along the stone with fairly light pressure.
This is enough for the diamond grit on the Buck knife sharpener to take metal off the blade.

The blade of your knife is probably harder than the metal plating that the diamond grit is embedded in.
If you use too much pressure trying to speed up the sharpening process, its possible for the knife blade to knock the diamond grit out of it's bedding.

This happened to me several years ago with another manufacturer's diamond sharpening tool, not a Buck knife sharpener.
It's possible that diamond knife sharpeners have been improved and that this doesn't happen any more, but it's just something to keep in mind. The Model 97045 has 325 grit and 750 grit diamond stones, and a fine Arkansas stone. The Model 97062 is a two sided diamond sharpener with 5 3/4 inch stones in 325 and 750 grit. There's a 6 1/4 inch diamond stone in 325 and 750 grit, a 4 inch diamond stone in 750 grit, and there's a 4 3/8 x 1 5/8 inch Arkansas fine washita honing stone. One end is tapered for sharpening serrated blades, it has a groove for sharpening fish hooks, and it has one flat side for sharpening standard blades. It's for sharpening serrated knives and fishing hooks.
